Alan Newton is a Traverse City photographer who arrived over 20 years ago after living in both Los Angeles and Boston. He loves the challenge of capturing whatever is in front of him no matter what the weather, referees, restrictive tour managers and the spotlight and gel gods throw at him.

Besides a regular diet of bands, concerts and family he has shot for the University of Michigan men’s soccer team, the Traverse City Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, the Traverse City Film Festival, the National Cherry Festival, the Detroit Red Wings Training Camp, mixed martial arts and numerous high school sports.

The challenge for me is in capturing the moment. The right preparation, the right position, the right camera settings, and the right mental focus all lead to preserving a moment in time that can be relived or for some can be seen for the first time”.

“Over the years I have had many experiences with professional photographers during my career as a musician, owner of a design firm, entertainment director and music promoter. I must say that Mr. Alan Newton is at the front of the line with his amazing photography. He has a keen eye for highly emotional captures which fully represent the event at hand he is filming. Sometimes I thought it was just luck, but after experiencing the phenomena time after time I realized Alan Newton has a true gift as a photographic artist unlike many others who claim to be. His demeanor makes you feel totally comfortable and you can trust he is interested in doing the best job possible. Humble in spirit and professional through and through, I can honestly say Alan Newton is without a doubt one of the finest photographers I have ever come across.”

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Alan Newton for his tireless work ethic in capturing EVERY facet of our sport and team. He involves every player from the all-stater to the waterboy on the sideline and provides a true picture of what our TC West Football Family is all about. Building a program is a business. You must sell your people involved that you provide a quality product on and off the field of play. Mr. Newton has certainly helped our program provide a quality product to the West Football Family. Thanks Alan!

“Alan Newton (or Newton Photography) has far exceeded all expectations in his work with the City Opera House! He is able to capture not an image but a truly stunning moment in time, every time. We are honored to have his expertise enhance our history. Staff, Board of Directors, Volunteers, Vendors, Patrons and National Talent has all commented on how fantastic his work is but also how wonderful he is to work with. It’s not every day we give an all access pass to a person not on staff. He is a testament to professional artistry.”
